Markham Elementary is wrapped up its third annual Great Pumpkin Contest. Markham’s wonderful librarian, Michele Griffin, challenged students, some with help from a parent, to transform ordinary pumpkins into their favorite literary characters. And boy, did they deliver! From Minions to the Queen of Hearts, Oscar the Grouch, and even SpongeBob, the library was a squash-tastic scene. The judging crew of fifth and sixth graders, staff and parents had their hands full with 180 one-of-a-kind pumpkin creations to evaluate this year.
